Resilience Lab Sveti Nikole at the Pathways2Resilience Sensemaking Event in Málaga

Last week, we joined regions from across Europe in Málaga, Spain, for the Pathways2Resilience Sensemaking Event — two days of dialogue, reflection, and strategic support aimed at advancing local climate resilience.

As part of the wider EU-funded Pathways2Resilience project, the event marked a key milestone in helping regions progress through the structured 18-month Regional Resilience Journey. Our team was represented by Nikolco Gosev from SmartUp – Social Innovation Lab, together with Ivica Arsov (Head of Department for Local Economic Development and Public Activities of Sveti Nikole) and Ivana Dimitrova (Project Coordinator at the Municipality of Sveti Nikole).

Through this initiative, Sveti Nikole (North Macedonia) is one of 100 European regions working to co-develop climate resilience strategies, action plans, and investment plans aligned with the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change. The project promotes a shift from isolated, sectoral planning toward systemic and cross-cutting approaches that integrate innovation, local knowledge, and collaborative governance.

Sessions included the presentation of baseline analysis results, highlighting common trends and emerging challenges across participating regions. Panel discussions and mentoring opportunities created room for peer learning, while interactive sessions allowed participants to dive deeper into specific topics, such as capacity building, investment strategies, and operational tools.

With just six months left before the first cohort finalizes the Climate Resilience Action Plans and Investment Plans, the momentum is strong. The gathering underscored how collective sensemaking and peer exchange are essential in turning climate ambitions into reality.

Pathways2Resilience is an initiative coordinated by Climate-KIC and funded by the European Union that helps European regions and communities design and implement locally driven adaptation pathways to better prepare for climate challenges and strengthen long-term resilience.
