EmpowerED: The Digital Transformation of Teacher Self-Evaluation Process for Tailored Growth
This project is an innovative initiative that develops a digital tool to streamline and simplify the process of creating individual professional development plans for teachers in North Macedonia. The project addresses current gaps in teacher development by digitizing the self-evaluation process, enabling teachers to create relevant and personalized individual professional development plans. By focusing on strengthening teachers’ competencies and building the capacity of school teaching staff, the project aims to streamline the process, making it more accessible, efficient, and impactful.
Key challenges
Teachers often struggle with the self-evaluation process, leading to incomplete or inadequate individual professional development plans.
The current approach to creating individual professional development plans does not effectively address the specific needs of each teacher, limiting meaningful capacity building and insights into emerging educational trends.
The approach to the teachers’ professional development and capacity building of schools faces challenges, as training topics are frequently repeated without effectively addressing core competency gaps, which results in poor student academic achievements on international tests and a lack of overall knowledge and skill development.
Goal
The project will digitalize the self-evaluation process and implement a digital self-evaluation tool, allowing teachers to easily assess their needs and create relevant and individual professional development plans. The creation of a public database from this self-evaluation data will help educational authorities and service providers tailor training programs to meet the real-time needs of teachers. This will increase participation, provide more relevant training, and strengthen teacher competencies, ultimately improving student learning outcomes.
By digitalizing the self-evaluation process and creating personalized professional development plans for teachers, this project will not only address current gaps in teacher development but also provide a scalable framework that can be adapted to different educational contexts. The project will encourage educators to meet their unique needs while contributing to the overall improvement of teaching quality and student outcomes in North Macedonia. Ultimately, the integration of this tool will create a more efficient, responsive, and impactful system for teacher development, paving the way for a stronger, more competent education system.

This project is implemented through a strategic partnership with the Pestalozzi Children’s Foundation, which provides financial support as well as ongoing strategic guidance in project management and organisational capacity development.
The activities within the project are carried out with the support of the Bureau for Development of Education and the Ministry of Education and Science, and are implemented by SmartUp – Social Innovation Lab Skopje.
