New initiatives for educators: #SafeCyberEDU

As an innovation lab, we are always on the lookout for new opportunities that can have a huge impact on developing new skills and teaching our society how to adapt to new situations efficiently and effectively. Considering the impact of the EDUINO: Collective Portal for Digital Resources over the past three years, we wanted to continue helping our educators to adapt faster to new technologies and show how they can safely use them, both for them and for the students.

The Need for Cyber Security Education

In today’s digital age, cybersecurity has become an essential aspect of daily life, and its importance is particularly significant in the education sector. As educators continue to embrace digital technology to facilitate learning, they are also becoming more vulnerable to cyber threats and attacks.

Therefore, we saw a need to equip teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills to protect themselves and their students from cybersecurity threats. Together with our collaborators, we designed ‘The Cybersecurity Training for Teachers’ course. It provides the teachers with a comprehensive understanding of cybersecurity and its relevance in digital learning. The course enables them to identify and mitigate various cybersecurity threats and attacks, as well as provides techniques that students can use to protect themselves when using technology.

How Are We Going to Do It?

The ‘Safe Cyber EDU’ project will help bridge the knowledge gap and provide teachers with practical tools and resources to implement cybersecurity best practices. This will go a long way in creating a safer digital learning environment, ensuring the safety and privacy of students and teachers, and building their confidence in using digital technology for learning.

About the training course

The course equips teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills to protect themselves and their students, incorporate best cybersecurity practices through protective and preventive measures, and demonstrate an understanding of cybersecurity laws and regulations.

The programme is carefully designed, based on the results we’ve got from a series of research activities and the data, results, and statistics we got from the EDUINO project.

We’ve started with conducting surveys, interviews, and assessments to collect data on teachers’ skills, strengths, and areas of improvement. After analyzing the collected data and successfully identifying the trends, gaps, and areas of excellence, we needed to compare the skills and competencies of our teaching staff with industry standards and best practices. Once we had identified the weaknesses, we developed clear and actionable recommendations for professional development programs and strategies that address identified gaps.
